Handley, Diana: 1983: Notes on Furness Branch Bells::: inscriptions and history |
||
|
||
notes:- |
Up to 1765 the church had a ring of 3 bells; they were replaced by a ring of 6 cast
and hung by James Harrison, Barrow, Lincolnshire, 1765. Two old bells were taken in
part payment, the other was sold to Samuel Irton, Irton Hall. Bell 5 was recast 1810.
All bearings were renewed in 1876, and the bells quarter turned in 1911. The wooden
bell frame was replaced by iron, and two bells added, 1958. A peal of Bob Major was
rung to celebrate the new ring of 8. |
