Single round shaft on octagonal base surmounted by ball on octagonal corniced top. Set on 3 hexagonal steps. In 1823 there is reference to "the new cross", it was taken down in 1845 and re-erected on top of a lock-up built on its site during the construction of the railway when there was rioting locally. The lock-up was taken down in 1862 and the cross replaced on the ground in its original position. Further information: Curwen, J.F. History of Heversham with Milnthorpe, pub. Titus Wilson 1930." |
