By the road south of Hundhowe. About ten feet up, the tree trunk branches into four.
'On the estate of John Harrison. Esq. of Hundhow, and a short way from Burneside, there is a large Oak tree known by the name of the 'Four Brothers', the circumference of which, two feet from the ground, is fifteen feet and ten inches. It then branches off at from three to six feet from the ground into four regular sized trees, whose girth twelve feet from the ground, is from five-and-a-half to six-and-a-half feet. The height of the tree is about fifteen yards. Mr Harrison has been offered the sum of L60 for it; but he states his determination, that, in his lifetime, it shall not be cut down.'
