Mr Green explained why he sometimes left the dead moles on a fence in a molecatcher's
gibbet. Nothing to do with any sort of custom or magic; simply to show the lanowner,
whom he might not meet before sending in his bill, how many moles he'd caught. |

He also explained why it was important to clear mole from improved pastures which
wuld be used for hay, or silage. You need clean hay or silage. The mole tumps will
bring up earth from below which might carry disease into the hay. |
