There is a glass goblet, 10¼ins high, drawn trumpet bowl, plain stem with a tear,
wide folded foot, diamond engraved:- |

"The Luck of / Skirskill / SEPTEMBER / The 1st / Anno / 1732" |
||
with coat of arms of the Whelpdale Family, three ?talbots racing. It is believed to
have been made to commemorate the betrothal of Mary daughter of John Brougham to William
Whelpdale of Skirsgill. They married at Dacre, 21 December 1732. It was last seen
at a Sotheby's sale, 22 January 1968, lot 150. |
