hearsay:- |
Thomas Wilkinson, a quaker, was asked by William Wordsworth to arrange the purchase
of this farm house, 1806. The price, L1000, was L200 more than Wordsworth was willing
to pay and Wilkinson asked Lord Lowther to make up the difference. Wordsworth was
embarassed by the arrangement, refused to live here, but let it instead. It was sold
in 1834 to a local innkeeper. |
