| hearsay:- | First written evidence dates to 1185. There was a grand meeting in 1785 which agreed
                  'four windows only ... the present porch to be removed to the end and a great door
                  to be broken in the centre of the west end ...' In 1819 a wall 'five feet and a half
                  high' was put round the churchyard - this is said to be the height at which a Herdwick
                  sheep will hesitate. | |
| In the church, or the churchyard? there is said to be the gravestone of John Noble,
                  died 1772 age 114. | ||
| There were two brothers, Mark Noble born 1655 who died age 113, and John Noble born
                  1658 died age 114. | ||
| (I've not found the gravestone.) | ||
|  | ||
| hearsay:- | There is/was a sundial given by Edward Troughton, who was born at Welcome Nook, dated
                  1882. | |
