"Church. C12 with 1886 restoration and extension. Mixed red and yellow squared and coursed sandstone on squared plinth (stone mostly from the Roman Wall); graduated sandstone slate roof with coped gables and cross finials. 4-bay nave with north porch and west open bellcote; 2-bay chancel under common roof. End 2 bays of nave are C19 extension with C19 porch. Original north door now C19 window. Narrow C19 round-headed windows. Chancel: original narrow round-headed window and chamfered-surround square-headed window with nail-head decoration. 3-light C19 east window. Interior: west window by Campbell, Smith & Co., 1886 in Arts &Crafts style. Furnishings and fittings all late C19. Fragment of Early English font and 2 medieval graveslab fragments. Bell of 1753."

The church was founded in 1098. The building includes stones from Hadrian's Wall, there are roman mason's marks on some of them. Much of the present building dates from the 19th century.
