"Church. 1868-70 by Cory &Ferguson of Carlisle for Mounsey family. Hammer- dressed calciferous sandstone with ashlar quoins and dressings; stone slate roof with coped gables and cross finials. Nave of 5 bays, west double bellcote and south porch. One-bay chancel has north vestry. Nave has pointed arched entrance to porch with wall sundial above; pointed lancet windows with hood- moulds. Chancel has 2-light lancets with hood-moulds and tripartite east window. Interior has open timber roof, early C20 pews and furnishings. Mid C19 marble wall plaques to Waugh and Hodgson families. Small Norman sculpture of King with sceptre on Cross. Chancel has barrel-vaulted roof. Eastwindow has stained glass by C.A. Gibbs, London, 1869. Also south window by him."

hearsay:-  
A vicar in the mid 19th century used to open the north door of the church before services on Sunday, to chase the devil out.
Once some children at Sunday school quietly escaped through this door while the vicar had his eyes shut for the closing prayer - his congregation was spirited away!
