"School; now Parish Hall, dated 1869. Stone rubble walls; roughcut quoins; limestone cills and dressings; graduated greenslate roof; blue glazed ridge. L-shaped plan with gable to road at left. Single storey. Round-arched casement with glazing bars and 2 tiny round-headed windows above in gable; cross casement to right; boarded door between. Other elevations show 2 similar round- arched casements; 2 similar cross windows on left return. Bellcote on front gable. Interior retains pine boarded dado and original boarded doors."

"That A.D. 1651 Mr. Rowland Wilson bequeath- / -ed to be paid out of an Estate at Grassgarth in / this Township now in the possession of / Mr. William Bethom. An Annuity of L2.12.0. / to be disposed of by the Minister, the Church / Warden, and the Overseer of the poor / for the time being, as follows, Viz.: / On each Sunday in the year one / Shilling's worth of Rye or Wheat Bread / to be divided by the Said Authorities / among twelve of the poorest and most / deserving people of the Hamlet of Hugil, / immediately after Divine Service. / Also. / That the Said Mr. Rd. Wilson left out of the / Said Estate at Grassgarth L12.0.0 Pr. Anm. / to a School at Ings, to be taught by the / Minister for the time being." (taken 9.7.2009)  

hearsay:-  
Money was paid out of the estate of Rowland Wilson of Grassgarth for bread for the poor after Sunday service, and a school to be taught by the minister.
