Sycamore tree, Acer pseudoplatanus, planted by Cyprian Hilton, 1693, to replace the
old market cross which was probably destroyed during the Civil War. The tree is now
destroying the steps. There was a cheese and butter market here till 'recently'. The
remains of the preaching/market cross are now in the church yard. |
