The boulder displayed on the village green is not local limestone, it's a glacial
erratic of Shap Granite. |

Mr Swinglehurst, of the gunpowder works, living at Hincaster House, built a mission
room onto a cottage on the green, which served as a Sunday school till the 1940s. |
