hearsay:- |
Here, a plot for a cottage with orchard and grounds, 'on the banks of a rill that
gurgles down the side of Skiddaw', was bought by Sir George Beaumont for William Wordsworth,
1803 - before he knew the poet. The Wordsworth never moved here from Dove Cottage.
In the house is a brass plaque:- |
"Beaumont, it was thy wish that I should rear A seemly cottage in this sunny dell." |
The nearby stream was long known as Wordsworth's Ghyll. |
