Penny Bridge, Penny Bridge, Egton with Newland, Cumbria, SD31018329 --
The fish is very stylised but most closely resembles a carp, Cyprinus carpio L.; general
shape, long dorsal fin and large rounded tail. (It cannot be a member of the Salmonidae,
Salmon, Trout, Charr, etc, as it lacks a small fleshy adipose fin between the dorsal
fin and the caudal fin.) I suspect the artist just drew a generalised fish shape which
just happens to look like a carp! - Chris Palmer, HMCMS.
