DERWENT WATER, above Lowdore.
The vast chasm caused by the waters of Watenlath, afford,
perhaps, the grandest scenery to be found in the North of
England; within the distance of two or three hundred yards
above the water-fall of Lowdore, there are several
picturesque openings, from which the lake of Derwent is seen
in great beauty; that, as here chosen, has the majestic
Skiddaw in the distance, with the lake and part of the
beautiful vale of Keswick stretched at his foot.
CRUMMOCK WATER.
This view is taken from the foot of the lake, about one mile
from the inn at Scale-Hill. In the middle group appears
Rannerdale-Knott, and upon the opposite side the lake, still
more remote, the conical mountain Red Pike; the scene is
closed by the mountains which bound the western side of
Buttermere.
