Lanercost Priory, and Christ Church, Whitehaven

CUMBERLAND.
Sept. 16. During a high wind the roof of Lanercost Abbey fell in with a loud crash, bearing everything down beneath it. The unfortunate event happened during the night, and is attributed to the ruined state of the rafters.
The new church named Christ Church, Whitehaven, has been consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Chester, assisted by the Rev. Richard Parkinson, principal of St. Bee's college, and about thirty other clergymen.
