Edward Cave was born in Rugby, son of a cobbler, 1691. He
served an apprenticship with a printer in London, and after
was a printer and journalist in Norwich, Norfolk. He married
and settled in London, and amongst other interests, created
and published the Gentleman's Magazine from 1731 to his
death, 1754.
