A separate index is made for the Cross Roads.

 INDEX TO THE CROSS ROADS.

Note.- Where the Italic Character is used, it implies
a complete, uninterrupted Route; and where the Roman Letter
is adopted, it signifies it to be Part only of some
Route so described in Italics. - For Example, See the Route
from Hounslow to Ryegate, p.561. This Road is divided thus -
Kingston to Ewell; Kingston to Hounslow; Ewell to Ryegate.-
Observe that, in this Instance, as in most others where the
Road is subdivided, the Eye, in reading, is directed
contrary Ways, or both up and down; namely, upwards for
Kingston to Hounslow, and downwards for Kingston to Ewell,
and so for Ewell to Ryegate - conceiving that it was likely
the Road might be as much required from Kingston to
Hounslow, as from Kingston to Ewell.- But wherever this
Index shall fail to answer the Purpose intended, a Reference
to the Cross Road Map will obviate the Difficulty.
 Entries are on the pattern:-
 Aldstone to Alnwick, 475
 Askrigg to Kendal, 654
