Lancaster and Carlisle
Railway
Sept. 28. The first portion of the Lancaster and
Carlisle Railway, to Kendal (Commenced in the latter part of
September, 1843), was opened on Monday. It extends
twenty-two miles. On arriving at Kendal, the directors, with
their officers, and a large party of friends, repaired, by
special invitation from the directors of the Kendal and
Windermere railway, to the White Hall, where a handsome
dejeuner awaited their arrival. Cornelius Nicholson,
esq. mayor of Kendal, presided.
