  Hawes Water
HAWES WATER, a beautiful lake, 5 miles distant of Kendal, in Westmoreland. The narrowest part of it is [5]0 fathoms deep, but so narrow that a stone may be thrown across it. On the road from Penrith to Kendal is a fine cataract, and the little vale contracts into a glen strewn with the ruins of mouldered mountains.
