The frontispiece, Pigling Bland in the red jacket. When they set out, Aunt Pettitoes says:-  ""... take the hand of your brother Pigling Bland, you must go to market. Mind ... Observe sign-posts and milestones; ...""
This could be the fingerpost at Near Sawrey. Beatrix Potter lived nearby.

Later in the story Alexander has been left behind, and  "Pigling Bland went on alone dejectedly; he came to a cross-roads and a sign-post - "To Market Town, 5 miles," "Over the Hills, 4 miles," "To Pettitoes Farm, 3 miles.""

hearsay:-
This new sign has replaced one that is said to have been listed - so where is it?
