Local ironstone rubble with Stanton sandstone dressings; slate roof Nave and chancel under uninterrupted roof with fleche above chancel arch; South porch; vestry under lean-to roof at SE. Single and paired flush lancets to nave; triple lancets to west end. Polygonal apsed chancel, unbuttressed and battered, each facet with single lancet under hood mould - an impressive feature. Fleche with small gables at cardinal points. Vestry entered by means of a flight of steps (to west), with a 2-1ight Caernarfon-type window." "INTERIOR: Hammerbeam roof to nave. Vestigial chancel arch marked by ceilure supported on shafts. Collar rafter roof to chancel. Simple furnishings include contemporary open benches. A good example of a sensitively designed Victorian rural church built on a low budget, displaying careful use of materials. Much use is made of accentuating features with minimum detailing, such as the lack of buttressing and hood moulds. The battered polygonal apse is an especially impressive feature." |
